Avondale United 4 Fermoy 2
Avondale climbed off the bottom of the table with a 4-2 victory over Fermoy in a lacklustre performance in Carrigaline on Sunday. Avondale started on a flyer when they scored after five minutes. Marc tobin was the instigator and his pinpoint left wing cross was headed home by Martin O'Sullivan from 8 yards. Tobin added the second in the 12th minute after good work from Denis O'Sullivan. Avondale went three up in the 17th minute when O'Sullivan scored again after the chance was created by Mark Collins down the right. After this Avondale took their foot off the pedal. Both sides were guilty of sloppy play, time and again giving possession to the opposition. Avondale started the second half in good form again and O'Sullivan completed his hat-trick in the 50th minute when he, again, headed home Mark Tobin's left wing cross. This was the end of Avondale's good play however and as the game went on they, once again, became very sloppy. This led to two quick goals from Fermoy. The first came in the 70th minute when a right wing cross was not dealt with by the Avondale defence and a Fermoy attacker prodded home from 5 yards. One minute later Avondale conceded an un-necessary free on the half way line and the resulting ball into the area was, again, missed by the Avondale defence and Fermoy scored from 7 yards. Avondale tried to extend their lead in the last quarter of an hour but it was not to come despite the best efforts of Denis O'Sullivan, Marc Tobin and Mark Twohig. A win is a win as they say and, hopefully, this will help the confidence of a youthful Avondale side going forward.
